This is a call to bring great minds together to creating an innovative project (please e-mail and share this with any one you think would be interested). From this discussion I hope a council will form to create this project. The Goal: To increase Vermont’s local sustainability; creating jobs, access to farms land, educational opportunities for the next generation of Vermont farmers, as well as bringing a new ecological resiliency to Vermont's working landscapes.

Some  Ideas: The purposed project could function as a community land trust. It could be seen as a; voluntarily redistribution of land to aspiring farmers in pursuit of a sustainable Vermont. The Trust would acquire land...

On my tour deeper into this rabbit hole, looking at the operational structure of private prisons I perceived a vast network of vain like roots interconnected in a vector pattern consolidating further and further until they united together into a seemingly dead unity.

Meaning; our public communal wealth and health connects to it own exploitation through private Interests that are catalyzed by monetary profits that are linked by hedge funds which hire lobbyists that are the inner and outer workings of the masked Corporate-Person who in tern runs the "DEAD ENTITY".

Reading suggestions and excerpts if you want to follow me down this rabbit...

Web Editor's Note: Finance. Fuel, Food. If Vermonters can reinvent and relocalize these critical three areas of our economic life, we will be well-positioned to weather the storms of the Long Emergency. Ellen Brown's latest article details how individual states are moving to reclaim their financial sovereignty. Et tu, Vermont? Read more about state banking at Ellen Brown's web site.) Here's Brown:

Responding to an unfilled need for credit for local government, local businesses and consumers, three states in the last month have introduced...

Editor's note: Kauffman's new book on secession received BEST BOOK OF 2010 by Hearts and Minds Books. Thanks to Chelsea Green's Margo Baldwin for passing on this to review to us.

Bye-Bye Miss American Empire: Neighborhood Patriots, Backcountry Rebels, and their Underdog Crusade to Redraw America's Political Map by Bill Kauffman. (Chelsea Green)

Well, this is going to be a hard-sell, having you honor our awarding this for anything more than the season's longest subtitle. And I'm not even sure how to explain the darn thing.  A lot of this is ...

Some favours come at too high a price.

You have a right to know the price of Lockheed bailing out the Montpelier government budget. A few more years of a balanced budget, with recovery always 'just around the corner'. The price:

  •   - Participation in the ongoing genocide
  •   - Vermont responsible for sharp increase in Global Warming
  •   - Lockheed's money comes from borrowed cash that WE have to pay back through higher taxes and lower living standards.  Nothing's for free!
  •   - Vermont becomes a 'Company Town' for the Lockheed corporation
  •   - Even our schools have to open to...

Think.

Should farmers & consumers in Vermont have as many rights as those in Europe, Australia and New Zealand? The European Union (EU) countries implemented mandatory labeling requirements for genetically engineered soy and corn. By the end of 1998, nearly all the grocery chains and fast food restaurants in the EU had eliminated genetically engineered ingredients from their products. Australian and New Zealand food manufacturers must label all processed food products that contain GMO (genetically engineered, or biotech) ingredients. As a result of this labeling requirement, Australia's largest food conglomerate, Goodman Fielder, eliminated GMO from its product line. Other manufacturers and grocery chains are following...

JANUARY 19, 2011 by Sam Smith, original article on UnderNews Several years after the passage of the Federal Boating Act of 1958, the Second Coast Guard District in St. Louis sent a team of unarmed men, and a van with outboard patrol boat in tow, to Oklahoma to begin safety inspections of vessels on a federal waterway. A few days later, the men returned sheepishly to St. Louis, explaining that they had been met by officers of the Oklahoma State Police who had told them they weren't welcomed and that the next time they came to the state they had better "bring your...

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that corporations are entitled to spend unlimited funds in our elections, rolling back a century of modest limits. The First Amendment was never intended to protect corporations.

"Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government."

Vermont should publicly denounce The Council of Governors.

The Executive Order of January 11, 2010 that created a Council of Governors; consisting of 10 Governors appointed by the President, has covertly established a treaty. Each of these 10 Governors of the council is representing multiple states, breaching our states sovereignty. The EO doesn’t explain that these governors are representing a region consisting of several states, yet the U.S. of A has been broken into 10 regional territories by the US Gov. Are we to assume this is a coincidence? Link to the Map  ...

Take it from un-credentialed Vermont housewife: Even a cursory examination of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program reveals the Pentagon ignoring its own bylaws and brushing aside its own stated values in pursuit of an unstated and inconsonant goal.

The continuation of the F-35 program, a program that is unnecessary, egregiously underperforming, over budget and behind schedule but nonetheless replete with an embarrassing level of fawning congressional support, is an obvious “tell” of institutional failure, where the singular interests of global corporations can no longer be served within the rule of law.

The Nunn-McCurdy Amendment, a measure adopted by Congress in 1982 to curtail cost growth in American weapons procurement...
